Since it was established in 1982, NC State University\u2019s Trademark Licensing office has focused on three primary duties:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n
  • Protect the trademarks<\/strong>, service marks, logos, symbols and indicia that belong to the University and that are associated with the values, purpose and traditions of NC State.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Promote the University<\/strong> through brand identity and public awareness that comes from the use of the trademarks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Support NC State students<\/strong> by using trademark royalties collected from the sale of licensed products to provide athletic, merit and study abroad scholarships<\/strong>, as well as need-based financial aid<\/strong> programs.<\/li>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    The Trademark Licensing office provides guidance, resources, and examples for licensees, fans, students and university departments so that they can use NC State trademarks in accordance with pertinent policies, rules and regulations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Usage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The NC State logo, informally known as \u201cthe brick,\u201d must be used to identify all NC State communications. The do\u2019s and don\u2019ts for applying the logo are provided below.

    The logo is a singular design concept, but different versions work in a range of different situations.

    There are two configurations of the brick: 4\u00d71 and 2\u00d72. Use the appropriate configuration for your project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Logo Guidelines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The logo must hold a prominent position in every external communication. It\u2019s the designer\u2019s decision where that position is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\"\"\n\n\n\n

    Clear space.<\/strong> Don\u2019t crowd the logo. When using it, measure the height of the letter N in NC State. Design elements, type and photos should be at least that far from the logo.

    Small-scale applications.<\/strong> The logo and unit name may form a single unit on web banners and small promotional items with extreme space limitations. Additionally, other identifying conventions may be applied for social media handles, icons and other digital uses that are too small to accommodate the logo in an appropriate size.
